A home energy audit, or home performance assessment, helps you assess how much energy your home uses and what measures you can take to improve the efficiency of your home energy use. A professionally certified home energy auditor from Greenhome Specialties comes to your home and uses a variety of tests and techniques to determine the energy usage of your home. The findings of the audit will tell you exactly where and why your home is energy inefficient. The energy auditor will then present you with a comprehensive, prioritized and practical path to achieve better energy efficiency. This assessment helps you to determine which recommended improvements you would like to implement.
The Utah Home Performance Program is a government program that subsidizes 80% of the cost for a home energy audit! For $100 (this assessment is normally $400-$500) you can find out how efficient your home is and take advantage of The Utah Home Performance Program with ENERGY STAR. The program will pay up to $2,000 towards energy efficiency improvements if you agree to choose the most cost-effective options to reduce your fuel usage by 20%. Your home must meet specific requirements to qualify. Contact Greenhome Specialties today to see if your home qualifies for the Utah Home Performance Program.

At Greenhome Specialties, we are both certified energy auditors and certified contractors. We will be with you every step of the way; through determining your home's eligibility for the Utah Home Performance Program to making the recommended improvements, to filling the documentation required to apply for all applicable rebates.
To determine if your home is a good candidate for a subsided home energy audit, contact us and answer a few questions about your home's structure, heating and cooling, appliances, and usage. We will then determine if your home is eligible for the Utah Home Performance Program. If your home is not eligible for the Utah Home Performance Program, we will help you find other cost-effective ways to accomplish your home energy audit.
Contact one of GreenHome's energy specialists to schedule your energy audit. If you qualify for the assessment, the cost of the audit to a homeowner is FREE. The cost for an additional (not required) Blower Door Test is $250.
What to expect during the assessment
A Building Performance Institute-certified energy analyst from Greenhome will come to your home to perform a variety of tests to determine the home's energy efficiency. The tests performed include a duct-blaster test, which is pressurization of the ductwork to identify any air leakage in the ducts; examination of all gas appliances, the furnace, air condition unit, windows, doors, insulation and other components of the home; and, if requested, a blower-door test to spot air leakage in the home. Additionally, be prepared to show previous utility bills to the analyst that visits your home. Most home assessments take between one and two hours.
The Greenhome Specialties home energy auditor will provide you with a comprehensive Home Performance Assessment Summary Report. The report will include recommendations for energy efficiency improvements. In addition, you will receive your current Energy Performance Score (EPS) and a target EPS. These scores indicate your home's energy use now and your estimated score if you make the recommended energy efficiency improvements.
With your Greenhome Specialties auditor, select what improvements you plan to make to improve your home's energy efficiency and complete the Application to Reserve Funds as soon as possible as funds are limited. Once approved, the funds for your project will be held for 90 days. You will receive confirmation from the program on your eligibility and will be provided a rebate estimate of what you can expect to get back from the program to put toward the cost of improvements. Once you have reserved your funds, you can get started on your home improvements. To qualify for the reserved funds, you must work with a participating contractor, like Greenhome Specialties.
When your home improvements are completed you will need to schedule a final Home Performance Assessment. This assessment will evaluate if you have reached your target Energy Performance Score (EPS) and verifies the improvements were made according to the program's standards resulting in at least 20 percent energy savings. We will also assist you in filling out the rebate forms.
